CTSI INVESTS K8.1 MILLION TO BOOST LAE PORT CAPACITY

South Pacific International Container Terminal has invested PGK 8.1 million in new equipment to expand capacity and efficiency at Lae’s ports amid rising vessel traffic this year.

The investment supports operations at the Lae Tidal Basin overflow berth at Lae Main Wharf, which was activated to handle higher volumes of vessels and cargo.

New equipment deployed includes one reach stacker, two empty container handlers, and five terminal trucks with trailers. The additions will complement the mobile harbor crane already operating at Lae Main Wharf.

“These investments strengthen our ability to respond to growing demand while maintaining safe, efficient and reliable operations,” said Robert Maxwell, ICTSI South Pacific Chief Executive Officer.

“By adding capacity and improving how we handle cargo, we can better serve our customers as trade activity continues to grow.

ICTSI South Pacific is also planning further upgrades at SPICT and Motukea International Terminal. Rubber-tired gantry cranes will be added to both terminals to increase storage density and improve truck turnaround times.  A new gate camera system will also be installed to record the condition and status of containers as they enter and exit the terminals.”

The upgrades are part of ICTSI’s broader commitment to improve the capacity, efficiency and reliability of Papua New Guinea’s port infrastructure to support growing trade.
