With a deadline to make the switch from analogue to digital transmission set for May 2018, broadcasters in Papua New Guinea need the support from the Government to ensure this target is met.
Among immediate needs, is a commitment from government to ensure an enabling environment for all free to air public broadcasters for this transition.
EMTV Head of News & Current Affairs, Neville Choi, made this point when participating in a panel discussion on the topic “Media Industry Perspective of Future Broadcasting” at the ABU Pacific Media Partnership Conference.
“Given broadcasters have just under two years to make the Digital Switch Over (DSO), there is immense pressure on broadcasters to commence efforts in keeping to this timeline.”
However, what is equally important is that the government commit to supporting broadcasters.
Earlier on, Public Enterprise & State Investment Minister, William Duma, had provided an assurance of the national government’s support to EMTV in its plans to go digital by 2018.
