Papua New Guinea’s Defense Force Engineering Battalion has engaged in over 600 infrastructure projects since 1975.
Today marks 39 years of existence of the Engineering Battalion.
At Lae’s Igam Barracks Engineering Battalion, Defense engineers marked the day with a parade hosted by their commanding officer.
Today, families and friends of Lae’s Igam Barracks Engineering Battalion witnessed a parade that marked 39 years of their brothers’ or fathers’ services.
The event has brought to light the men’s skills contribution to building some of the country’s major infrastructure projects over the years.
Following the current road construction linking Western Highlands and Madang Provinces, Madang Governor, Jim Kas, today pledged a piece of land at Madang’s Daigul area.
The engineering battalion camp will be built on this land.
Engineering Battalion Lieutenant Colonel John Giregire said the construction of two more bridges on the Jimi and Ramu River would connect the provinces.
The engineers are also doing rehabilitation work on the Highlands Highway.
Their biggest project this year is the 310km Madang- Baiyer road.
The PNG Defense Force Engineering Battalion continues to have funding challenges over 20 years.
