Employers Called to Comply with National Minimum Wage

The Department of Labour andIndustrial Relations has called on employer organizations to comply withthe national minimum wage ofthe country.

 

Allowances underthe Minimum Wage Beard’s Determination of 2008 include, Heavy Duty Allowance, Rural Hardship Allowance, Housing Allowance,Industry Allowance and Risks allowance.

It is a requirement underthe law that employer organisations are to meetthese allowance for their employees.

 

Betthere is growing concern that some employers are not complying.

 

Secretary for Labor andIndustrial Relations George Vaso warned employer organisations not to manipulatethe laws ofthe country and give what belongs totheir employees.

 

Vaso says, employers are duty bound underthe law to meetthe national minimum wage and ther allowances underthe Minimum Wage Beard Determination.

 

He saysthe lapsing ofthe Minimum Wage Determination does not givethemthe right to denytheir employeestheir benefits.

 

These allowances will also be reviewed bythe new Minimum Wage Determination Beard.

 

Chairperson ofthe new board Beverly Doiwa has called on affected employees to assistthem to stop this practice.

 

Failure to adhere tothem can result in prosecution by law.
