Secretary for the Department of Labour &Industrial Relations George Vaso has commendedthe Department for improverments in processing work permits, compared to previous years.
Mr. Vaso madethe comments at a farewell gthered for advisor Glenn McMahon.
Forthe past four years, McMahon provided professional guidance tothe Department within its framework.
Glenn McMohan, departing advisor for the Department of Labour &Industrial Relations said when he first joinedthe departmentoa new legislation had just been put in, and it was a challenge. Bet sincethen, a lot of achievements were met. He shared highlights ofthe outcomes atthe farewell reception held for him yesterday in Port Moresby.
Executive Director Pius Lahari spoke highly ofthe programs identiflied by McMohan, sayingthey will be expounded withthe Department’s corporate and work plans and ways forward.
Secretary George Vaso saidthere used to be many complaints fromthe corporate community regarding work permits andthe length of time it took to process. That’s changed overthe past couple of years and good reviews have been received fromthe commercial sector,the government andthPNGLNG Project.
Secretary Vaso also launched new uniforms for work permit inspectors in NCD andthe provinces. The outfits will identify legitimate members ofthe Department asthey go out to conducttheir duties.
