People inthe Middle Fly District of Belimo now have access to first class health services followingthe opening ofthe New Belimo Hospital last week Friday.
The new hospital was funded underthe OK Tedi Mining Limited’s Tax Credit Scheme.
Locals inthe small township of Belimo gthered for the grand opening, which was also attended by South Fly MP Roy Beyama and Western Province Governor Ati Wobiro.
It was a celebration for the Belimo locals asthey gthered in numbers for an important occasion,the opening ofthe New Belimo Hospital.
Local MP Roy Beyama and Governor Ati Wobiro arrived from Port Moresby to withnessthe ceremony.
Ok Tedi Mining Limited CEO Nigel Parker was also present to meet both lLeaders Duringthe official ceremony, Mr Parker told locals thatthey now had access to quality health services.
Middle Fly MP Roy Beyama commended OTML for the magnificent facility. He also thankedthe Evangelical Church of Paua New Guineawho had been operatingthe old Belimo Health Centre.
He now wants a permanent doctor to oversee operations atthe hospital.
Western Province Governor Ati Wobiro saidthe new facility will benefitthe whole province, and urgedthe people to look after it.
The dignitaries werethen taken to officially openthe hospital.
Then inspections ofthe eleven block facility, which includes an emergency unitosurgical wards, and first class maternity wing.
The K36 million redeveloped facility, was funded underthe OTML Tax Credit Scheme.
Nearly K40 million had been allocated for the projectowhich also includes a stage two housing project for staff.
The New Belimo Hospital is expected to not only cater for the 22, 000 plus population, but also surrounding Districts of North and South Fly.
