Awareness Through Rugby League

By Elijah Lavett – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Papua New Guinea Rugby League, together with the League for Life program, will be using the sport as a tool to carry out awareness raising in communities on domestic violence and the equal participation of women in sports.

With Rugby League representing not only a sport to many people, but also becoming part of their life, the players can represent positive role models for men and boys in communities.

General Manager for League Integration and Game Development, Andrew Hill, said the sport can be used to drive awareness like no other sport.

Through the League for Life program, many women and girls have become involved in Rugby League and this has made them realise their potential as equal partners in life.

Acting Australian High Commissioner to PNG, Ms Bronte Moules showed her support and said they wish to see the League for Life program move into other parts of PNG.
