Ambassador Peter Donigi Farewelled

Senior Lawyer and former diplomat, late Ambassador Peter Donigi, was formally farewelled today.

Attending his funeral service today were senior bureaucrats, former and present parliamentarians, and members from the law fraternity.

 

Immediate family members from both Papua New Guinea and Australia were present at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Port Moresby for the service.

 

Late Peter Donigi was farewelled today.

 

Senior members from the law fraternity carried the late ambassador in for the funeral mass.

 

Wife, Diane Donigi, and his six daughters plus his in-laws and the extended family were part of the procession.

 

Distinguished persons in attendance were 2 former Prime Ministers, Sir Rabbie Namaliu and Sir Mekere Morauta.

 

Others included Opposition leader Belden Namah, senior lawyers and former diplomats.

 

The government was represented by secretary for the department of Justice and Attorney General, Dr. Lawrence Kalinoe.

 

The late Donigi was described as a man who believed in the rule of law and by one as an activist lawyer.

 

Colleague lawyer and countryman, Alowis Jerewai, also paid tribute to the late Donigi.

 

Sir Mekere was given an opportunity to share his experiences with the late lawyer.

 

The leader of the Opposition also spoke on the circumstances that led him to meeting and working with late Donigi.

 

The body of the late Ambassador will be flown to his home province in East Sepik, where he will be laid to rest.
