Manus wants a District Administrator

Many provincial governments have blamed of lack of proper administration asthe underlying cause for under development.

Manus Province is one that has testiflied to this.

Manus MP Ronny Knight told parliament yesterday that progress is slow becausethere is no district administrator to expedite development programs.

He called on government to legally incorporate a vacancy for a district administrator to runthe affairs atthe district level.

Minister for Public Service Sir Puka Temu said arrangements will be made. He said for the moment,the provincial administration has been tasked to step in.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill toldthe house that district authorities will be established to address matters as such atthe district level.

Mr. O’Neill saidthe process of transferring powers is underway.
