Saga Of PM O’Neill’s Arrest Warrant

There has been a further reprieve for the arrest of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, at least until the case is before the courts next Wednesday.

Since Monday, however, there have been numerous administrative changes culminating in the disbanding of Investigation Task Force Sweep.

Here, we have EM TV’s head of News, Neville Choi, with a review of this week’s events and an exclusive telephone interview with ITFS Chairman, Sam Koim.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill cannot be arrested, pending a decision by the courts next Wednesday, June 25th.

This is the decision of the courts today, following a change in lawyers representing police.

Since Monday, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s lawyers have been in court seeking reprieve from an arrest warrant issued in relation to the payment of outstanding legal bills to Paraka Lawyers.

The arrest warrant, from Investigation Task Force Sweep, pertains to a letter purportedly from Mr O’Neill, directing the payment of legal bills to the law firm.

Although hand-delivered by ACP Crimes’ Thomas Eluh, who personally advised the PM of the warrant, inviting him to present himself at the fraud squad office for an interview, the Prime Minister has avoided the arrest.

Senior cabinet ministers detested the way in which the warrant was served, making their stance clear yesterday.

Since Monday, there have been major administrative changes. A special NEC meeting appointed Geoffrey Vaki as Acting Commissioner and by nightfall yesterday, Justice Minister and Attorney General, Kerenga Kua, had been replaced by Rigo MP, Ano Pala.

By this morning, when the contest returned to the courts, word had spread of the disbanding of Investigation Task Force Sweep.

In an exclusive telephone interview with EM TV, shortly after the case was adjourned to next Wednesday, ITFS Chairman, Sam Koim answered several questions regarding the arrest warrant.
