Kavo Supports YWAM With K200, 000

The Gulf Provincial Government has donated K200, 000 to Youth With A Mission Medical Ships, Australia, for their medical and training outreaches in the Gulf Province, from June to August 2014.

Gulf Governor, Havila Kavo, presented the cheque to YWAM MSA Ship Manager, Hannah Peart, onboard the vessel this week in Port Moresby.

YWAM MSA will have up to 50 personnel onboard the ship for its two-week outreach in the Gulf Province, that include doctors, dentists, optometrists, nurses, midwives, marine professionals, and general volunteers.

YWAM MSA Managing Director, Ken Mulligan said, the achievements with the Gulf Provincial Authorities, and health workers on the ground have been tremendous.

Since it began voyages to PNG in 2010, YWAM MSA has achieved 167,839 outputs including; primary health care, dentistry, optical services, health promotion initiatives, and capacity building for health care workers, in the Gulf and Western Province, as well as NCD.

In February last year, YWAM MSA signed a (MOU) with the Gulf Provincial Government in Parliament House, which outlines a mutual agreement to work in collaboration to achieve sustainable health outcomes in the Province.

Governor Kavo stated that YWAM MSA is a strategic partner to his province, to access remote locations, where health and training service delivery is lacking.

YWAM MSA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the PNG National Department of Health (NDoH) in 2011.

The MOU outlined a commitment to work in collaboration, in helping to achieve the objectives outlined in the National Health Plan 2011-2020. The NDoH has also supported YWAM MSA through the provision of immunisations and medication for its outreaches.
