Port Moresby Arts Theatre rattled the poetic and philosophical works of Shakespeare to life, with one of his famous works and popular plays, Henry IV, on Saturday Night.
Believed to have been written in the 1590’s, the show illustrate’s the reign and rebellion of Henry the 4th. A mischievous young man, mugged with the reality of securing his father’s once banished rights. He finds general understanding with commoners to denounce Richard the 2nd from his throne.
Director Bob Stanley, along with his team of 18 cast members with leads played by Tidman Ikosi and Simon Kaldy, and a backstage crew of 6, blended scenes of history, tragedy, comedy, yet contemporary stage work leaving the audience fill the theater with laughter and awe.
Making their debut on the night, Russel Ikosi behind the lighting and Anrew Kulinias on stage as the Servent and Messenger. The stage has been known to bring people from all walks of life.
Henry the 4th will be staged next, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7pm. A matinee show will also be staged on Saturday at 1pm. Tickets are K50 for the main show and the matinee is K20.
All proceeds from the successful staging of these plays will go to charity as well as the refurbishment and extension of the theatre itself. And the show goes on.
