Employers Warned: No Cheap Labour

Employers in the Northern Province have been warned not to use their workers as cheap laborers.

Ijivitari MP, David Arore told the employers to comply with relevant labor laws. He made these remarks during the National Labor Day in Popondetta yesterday.

 

The workforce in the province came in droves to be part of National Labor Day celebrations. Provincial Labor Officer, Copeland Gewa, was overwhelmed with the turn out.

 

Mr. Gewa told employers to strive to create a productive labor force in the province. He reminded the workers to know their rights and report any failings by their employers to the provincial labor office.

 

The new minimum wage of K3.20 will be implemented once approved, he said.

 

New Britain Province Oil which has the biggest number of workforce in the province.

Ijivitari Member, David Arore stressed the need for a savings culture.

 

He said, it is a wasted labor if nothing tangible comes out from their efforts. Mr. Arore also sounded a warning to employers not to treat their employees as cheap laborers.
