In this episode:
We join PNG Sports Foundation Acting Executive Dirctor, Peter Tsiamalili with an update on the PNG Games to be staged in Lae in November this year.
The PNG Games has been an avenue to pick up athletes in all 26 sporting codes from around the country.
While the focus has been on athletes that are based in major townships, the Games have proven that most untapped talent come from the rural districts.
For our Athletes Profile, we join two Tang Soo Do athletes from the Tang Soo Do Martial Arts Academy in Port Moresby.
19-year-old Rex Roko from the Central province is a boxing convert. A Blue belt in Tang Soo Do and a Green belt in Taekwondo, Rex hopes to one day acquire a black belt in both Taekwondo and Tang Soo Do, and to one day open up his own school.
Like Rex, Faustina Aisi is also an athlete at the Tang Soo Do Martial Arts Academy in Port Moresby.
She’s currently attending Jubilee Catholic Secondary School, and trains beside her elder sister Carolyn, under the guidance of their instructor and father, John Aisi.
We wish both Rex and Faustina the best in their preparations for upcoming tournaments.
The Men’s National Provincial Championships attracted a total of 12 teams from around the country.
While most teams made it a week prior to take part in the Kramer Ausenco 7s Invitational 7s tournament, others like Mendi Mustangs and Goroka Kili Toa’s slipped quietly to the Nation’s Capital.
The Monier Rugby Park plays host once again to another weekend of Rugby in the Nation’s Capital.
