Hela To Establish Traffic Registry Office

Hela Province has been delegated powers from the National Transport Division to establish its Traffic Registry Office.

Three instruments were signed by the Departments of Transport and National Land Transport Board before being handed to the Hela Provincial Administration.

Since becoming a province of its own, Hela has been without a proper traffic regulator. The signing of the instruments sets a new direction for the province in terms of vehicle registration, driver licensing and traffic regulations.

The instruments were signed by Transport Minister, Ano Pala, National Land Transport Board Chairman, Warren Temokang, and Secretary for Transport, Roy Mumu.

Mr. Mumu said the setting up of Hela’s Traffic Office, will oversee the transport industry in Hela, as the province is going through major changes with the LNG project taking place.

Andrew Kaupi from the Hela Provincial Administration when receiving the instruments said, Hela is flooded with vehicles but with no proper regulation. Mr Kaupi said the newly established Traffic Registry Office, will employ public servants from the provincial government.

A site in the provincial capital of Hela has been allocated for the office to be built on.
