A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was yesterday signed at Phoenix Restaurant, Port Moresby between Governor for Central Province Kila Haoda and state-owned company China Railway Construction Engineering (CRCE) and witnessed by fellow project partners and government officials.
Present at the signing was Central Province Governor Kila Haoda, First Secretary and advisor to the Governor, Michael Ligo, and Deputy Central Province Administrator Desmond Bira, among other government officials and CRCE counterparts.
The signing of the joint venture kicks off the construction and operation of a new 80-200 megawatt hydro power plant at Brown River.
Dubbed βThe Project,β both CRCE and the Central Province government aims to provide an efficient, effective and affordable power supply service to Central Province, Port Moresby city and other neighbouring provinces.
Governor Haoda urged CRCE to work with together with his government to achieve all requirements needed in executing the project effectively.
Central Provincial Administrator Gei Kuni Raga, who spoke at the signing, mentioned the lack of services experienced in areas such as Bereina, Abau and parts of Rigo and marked the occasion as a historical moment for Central Province whose people had missed out on benefits such as these.
Mr Raga further congratulated the joint efforts of the Governor and the legal and political support which helped pave the way for change.
Managing Director for CRCE, Sean Lau, spoke of his full confidence about the development and future of PNG, as well as the benefits it has brought to his company. This, he said, is something they would like to deliver back to PNG and its people β an opportunity for CRCE and PNG to evolve greatly.
