Dr Pok On Defence Maintenance Program

Defence Minister, Dr.Fabian Pok has pledged to roll out maintenance program to all Defence Force facilities in the country.

Most of the facilities are in dire need of refurbishment work.

The Taurama Barracks in Port Moresby has seen some work on the road and the once known Defence swimming club.

The Taurama Barracks is one of the Military Newss that existed ever since the establishment of the force in the country.

Defence Minister Dr. Fabian Pok and member for Moresby South, Justin Tkatchenko visited the Barracks recently to inspect the work on the Swimming pool and the roads.

The work on the 25 metre long pool aims to bring back Taurama to its former glory. It has once played host to Taurama swimming clubs and assisted the soldiers training program.

Minister Pok was delighted on the progress and he said similar work will be implemented to all other Defence Force facilities throughout the country under the Defence Force Maintenance Program.

Minister Pok has asked the government for an additional K30 million apart from their recurrent budget to carry out the maintenance work. The first payment was done, and now it came into fruition.

He said the funding will support some of the activities that were outlined in the Defence White Paper.

On the same note, Minister Pok made clear alternation on the Defence Force boundary of its entire establishment.

He said a team is now on ground to do boundary survey and every establishment will be registered under a newly NEC endorsed Defence Force Company, and no longer will run under Certified Authorizing Occupancy or CAO.

This is part of putting a stop to land grabbing issue in the country
