Morobe Ready For PNG Games

by Sylvester Gawi – EM TV, LAE

Morobe province is all set to host the 2014 PNG Games in Lae, come November 16th.

Governor Kelly Naru is happy with the progress of work at major sporting facilities and is looking forward to hosting a memorable PNG Games.

He has also challenged other provinces to be ready to face Team Morobe, when the game kicks off in a week’s time. The Morobe Governor and his delegation visited the venues yesterday afternoon to see the finishing touches on preparations for the 2014 PNG Games.

Kelly Naru was particularly pleased with the upgrade of sporting facilities at the stadium. The flag was passed to Morobe Province by East New Britain at the 2012 PNG Games.

With just less than 10 days remaining, much of the preparations on the ground have been completed. A new-look synthetic track at the outdoor stadium, new facilities at the indoor complex and a refreshing swimming pool are just some of the improvements at the stadium.

Other venues have also been rehabilitated over the last four weeks.

All facilities have been upgraded to international standard to give our local athletes an international sporting arena experience.

The organising committee has been credited for their tireless efforts in putting together the country’s biggest sporting event this year.

With good corporate and government backing, Lae is hoping to set the benchmark for other host provinces to follow in the future. Meanwhile, preparations for the opening ceremony are also on target, as a wide variety of Morobe cultural groups will be on display.

A live telecast of the opening ceremony will be featured on EM TV, as well as full coverage of the 2014 PNG Games.
