All members of parliament will now work in consultation with their provincial and district administrators.
This is a function added to the Public Service Management Act 2014, highlighted at the Madang workshop.
Deputy Secretary Policy for Personnel Management Department, Taeis Sansan who spoke on ‘New Appointment Process And Additional Functions’, said cooperation is important for service delivery to be realised.
This is in addition to functions specified in Section 74 (1) of the Organic Law on Provincial and Local Level Governments.
The administrator is the chief advisor to the Governor and Provincial Executive Council.
The district administrator is the Chief Advisor to local level government, responsible for planning and project development, and supervising officers in the district.
Participants like Thomas Tumun, who is the Simbu Governor First Assistant Secretary, are happy the new law allowing partnership between political heads and bureaucrats.
There are, however, fears that MPs might override powers within the provincial and district level.
