K2 MILLION POLICE BARRACKS AND HIGH SCHOOL TO BE BUILT IN KOKODA, ORO PROVINCE

The well-known Kokoda station in Oro province will now have its own police barracks and a facelift to the High school funded by Sohe District development Authority at the cost of K2 million.
The ground breaking ceremony was held at the scene over the weekend by Oro governor Garry Juffa and Sohe district member Henry Amuli.
The new barracks will consist of 16 units, with plans for further refurbishments to the Kokoda Police Station and additional housing for officers.
Mr. Amuli announced that the Sohe DDA is financing two major projects in the area, the Kokoda High School and the Kokoda Police Barracks.
“These projects here are funded by Sohe DDA,” Amuli said.
“The high school will cost K1milliom and the Police Stations K1 million. Sohe DDA already released the half payment last week, it was cleared into the company account.”
He said the materials for the project will be transported from Port Moresby to Kokoda to commence construction.
Amuli also expressed gratitude to governor Juffa, the Kokoda Track Authority (KTA), and AusAid for their ongoing support and collaboration on these initiatives led by the Sohe DDA.
AusAid and KTA assisted the project by funding the site clearing to allow the project to start.
Australian High Commission representative, Daniel Wells, highlighted the importance of the partnership.
“Australia is proud to be a partner through the Kokoda mission and the law-and-order priority here,” Wells said.
“I think it’s great that we can stand side by side and together and support these kinds of initiative that not only mark the value or our strong shared history but also the future that we will have.”
