Madang Provincial Hospital Nurses Stage Sit-In Protest over Allowances

Nurses at the Madang provincial hospital are demanding the hospital managementย payย Domestic Market Allowance.ย

The nursesย stagedย a sit-in protest on Monday for management to address them over their allowances before they can resume duty.ย 

ย 

PNG National Association President for Madang, Sr Agnes Tongia, says nurses have been patient for too long since the issue was raised in 2018.ย ย 

ย 

On Monday Nurses at the Madang provincial hospital went on a sit-in protestย CALLING ON THE MANAGEMENT TOย address their grievancesย AND PAYย Domestic Market allowance.ย 

ย 

PNGNA Madang president, Sr Anges Tongia, says the approval was given by the then hospital management CEO Christine Gawi for nurses to be paid their allowances.ย 

ย 

Sinceย then the first quarterย hasย lapsed and they are still waiting for theย authoritiesย to act on it.ย 

ย 

But former hospital CEO, Christine Gawi, says certain criteria will have to be met in order for Domestic Market Allowance to be paid to nurses.

ย 

Gawiย believesย theย nursesย should haveย advancedย diplomaย orย masters’ to qualify for the allowance.ย 

ย ย 

PHA CEO, Paul Mabong assuredย the nurses he will look into the matter andย get theirย Domestic Market allowances paid byย next pay week.ย 

ย 

Sr Agnes Tongia told the hospital management they will go back to work and will give the board two weeks toย resolve the issue.ย 

Nurses are demanding thatย theirย DMAsย areย included in the next pay period and willย showย be reflectedย on their payslips.ย 

ย 

They areย prepared to go onย anotherย sit-in protest if their allowances are not paid by next fortnight.ย
