Yongomugl to Kundiawa road project eyed

A vital stretch of road in Simbu Province which has been neglected for years, will see its construction in the coming year.

Simbu Governor Michael Dua says the Provincial Government aims to open this road so people can access other services in Kundiawa and else where.

The Yongomugl to Kundiawa back road will see work commencing after local community leaders agreed to it, following years of arguments and disagreements.

A recent gathering in Guguruma, outside Kundiawa, signified the first phase of building a road that will connect more than 50,000 people. Governor Michael Dua says the road has many benefits for the people. “We want people to access Kundiawa by using proper road”, said Governor Dua.

Governor Dua says the Provincial Government is embarking on Districts to join force through proper funding. About K50, 000 has been paid for the road clearance.

The road will start from Urr, and cuts through the Yongomugl District before connecting to Kundiawa.  This will be the shortest and most cost effective road for many to come into Kundiawa town.

A local leader says many have struggled to transport their goods, while others pay over their daily earnings following the current route into town.

Other roads to be built include the Kerowagi Barawagi road, and the road from Kerowagi to Kewamuk.
