K10 MILLION FOR MENDI POLICE STATION RENOVATION

The Southern Highlands Provincial Government has committed K10 million to renovate the Mendi Provincial Police Station.

K5 million was already presented and an additional K5 million has been approved to complete the project.

Provincial Administrator David Kelma announced the additional funding during a presentation attended by Deputy Police Commissioner Operations Donald Yamasombi and a project management team led by John Young in Mendi.

Kelma said the provincial administration was determined to bring the police station up to an appropriate standard ahead of hosting the upcoming PNG Grassroots Games.

“We want the police station to be in good shape before we host the PNG Grassroots Games,” Mr Kelma said.

The renovation is expected to improve working conditions for police officers and strengthen law and order services across the province.

Community leader Dixie Karinz Pombe called on Southern Highlanders to maintain peace and take ownership of the development projects under way in Mendi town and tthroughout the province.

Meanwhile, the project management team for the PNG Games is expected to visit facilities and project sites in the province where participants will be accommodated.
