Juffa: Logging crimes need urgent response by State agencies

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Northern Governor, Gary Juffa, wants Government authorities to improve their approach when dealing with crimes related to logging activities. Governor Juffa says despite personally reporting the matter to Forestry, and Police, authorities remain quiet over these issues. He says transnational crimes will only stop if authorities improve their approach.

Governor Juffa says he will not stop until Government authorities improve their attitude towards transnational crimes.

He says authorities continue to be slow in punishing those practicing illegal logging in the country. Governor Juffa recently visited a logging camp in the Ijivitari District. This operation has been the centre of debate and has dragged on for 4 months. He says the license for this operation must be ceased. His visit has seen the operation come to a stop.

Meanwhile, the Northern Governor has raised concern as to why the PNG Government did not sign the United Nation Convention against Transnational crimes.
