Shaping Framework of Third Medium Term Development Plan

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Government is on the verge of creating frameworks of the third Medium Term Development Plan, Planning Minister Richard Maru revealed in Port Moresby on Friday, April 24.

According to the Minister, a key aspect is to capture an inclusive input from all stakeholders.

He says with the focus to create a deliberate plan, greater effort is to grow the economy by increasing export over import.

“The 3rd Medium Term Development Plan will focus specifically on building the economy. This has been overlooked in the past MTDP plans, ” Minister Maru said.

With the country under extreme economic stress, the Minister eyes to formulate the MTDP 3 through a comprehensive review with all stakeholders.

Maru says consultation with Provincial Governments, Members of Parliament, and District Authorities should capture the potential of districts in building income for the country.

Part of the consultative process is the recent Lae Summit. The Planning Department will also review the performance of the MTDP 1 and 2. Goroka, Kokopo, Central and Madang will host the 4 regional meetings starting May, 2018.

The Planning Minister says the MTDP 3 should be finalized before mid-June for Cabinet to endorse.

The MTDP 3 is to be executed from 2018 to 2022.
