Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that affects thousands of Papua New Guineans annually. It is the leading cause of hospital admissions nationwide according to TB Physician Dr Rendi Moke.
TB kills more people than any other infectious disease in the country. Around 26 percent of TB cases are children which indicate high transmission in the household.
There’s an alarming rise in the multi-drug resistant TB in hot spot areas such as NCD, Gulf and Western Provinces.
If action is not taken now to combat TB in the country, we will be facing serious issues in treating TB, especially multi-drug resistant TB.
