Parents of Grade 9 students living in Mt Hagen City are against the idea of implementing standard Education in the City.
This means that Secondary schools will only offer Grade 11’s and 12’s, while High schools will have Grades 7 to 10.
This comes after the Education Board followed directions from the National Government and has planned for Hagen Park Secondary school not to accept Grade 9’s this year.
Commotion broke out between the local Moge people and the Provincial Education Board Committee this morning at Hagen Park Secondary School.
Unfortunately Education Advisor, Knox Kiap, had to cop the blame; he who was the only member present to address the parentsThe Provincial Education Board is re-introducing Standard Education to the Province.
The structure and curriculum change begins with Hagen Park Secondary to be known as a school of Excellence.
The top 5 percent bright Grade 10 students in all the high schools in Western Highlands Province will be selected to do Grade 11 at Hagen Park.
Other two primary schools, Hagen Tee and Tarangau Primary will become High Schools to accommodate students.
This did not go down well with the Landowners of Hagen City, the Moge tribe.
They complained that Hagen Park is their only high school and they cannot send their kids to schools outside of their area, because they have their tribal and political enemies can hinder their children’s learning.
Meanwhile, school Principal, Tony Buldung said he is ready to receive Grade 9’s; however, he does not have a list to enrol students.
While other schools have already started, Hagen Park will be waiting for the Provincial Education Board to have an urgent meeting this week to decide on this matter.
