Cricket PNG will be very busy this year with preparations for world events which both the men’s and the women’s national teams will participate in.
And in terms of the development of the code, more cricket programs will be run in affiliation with schools around the country, including Port Moresby.
With the Hebou PNG U19 Garamuts still competing at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand and the PNG Barramundis just a month away from their Cricket World Cup Qualifiers campaign in Zimbabwe, this year has surely gotten off to a busy start for Cricket PNG.
While onthe women’s team, the CPL PNG Lewas will also be due for their T20 World Cup Qualifying campaign in July in the Netherlands.
Having just returned from the Australian Cricket Country Championship, six members of the Barramundis and eight Lewas have continued into training as of this week.
Though for the men’s national team, they will be departing for Zimbabwe soon after the return of the U19 Squad from New Zealand.
Speaking of the Garamuts’ performance, CPNG Director Gayan Loku spoke positively of the youngsters who stood up and gave their best.
With Cricket PNG‘s effective development pathway, some of these junior players are expected to eventually make the senior men’s team.
Meanwhile, CPNG’s development programs, which have reached over 180, 000 participants nationwide in last year alone, will see more activities this year, in an effort to reach more participants.
And Inclusive programs like Kriket Blong Olgeta and School Kriket have proven effective.
For now, the first quarter of 2018 will be the busiest part of the year for CPNG, as both the senior men’s and women’s teams prepare for their World Cup qualifying campaigns.
