Family Continues Carving Culture

Many traditional carvings at Adventure Park have been damaged by the weather.

And to replace them, four young men from East Sepik Province are now carving new artefacts out from wood.

It is a special skill which also helps them make a living.

“We learnt it through sitting closely with our fathers and uncles,” said Timothy.

Timothy Gumari and his three friends have just carved new artefacts which took them almost three months.

The two bigger carvings are made from Kwila wood which took them almost six weeks.

Timothy’s group Bowindumba Creative Services aspire to preserve and create new traditional artefacts.
