Farapo, the Crocodile Whisperer

Adventure Park may be the best choice for parents looking to keep the kids occupied while on holiday, and at the same time, have the chance to win some money.

The Park recently began the Catch & Win Cash Competition, where different coloured tagged fish caught can land the angler cash prizes up to K5,000.

” We invite the public to come and enjoy some time away from the hustle and bustle of the city,” a guide tells us.

Apart from the angling, there are activities to experience.

Another attraction is the Crocodile Whisperer called Farapo, who is both deaf and mute.

He communicates with the crocodiles, who seem to understand him very clearly.

Powes Parkop and Justin Tkatchenko are the names of the two 35-year-old, 4-and-a-half-metre-long saltwater crocodiles, named after the NCD Governor and Moresby South MP.

While feeding time is at 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays, the adventure park staff allowed Mr Tkatchenko to have a snack on lamb heart. Governor Parkop did not want to eat.

“Kah,kah,” some unspoken language from Farapo as he tries coax his reptilian friends to pose for our camera.

They invited us into the pen where the 4 and half monster crocodile Tkatchenko has called home, to see the whisperer at work.
