Police personnel in the country will be given a 3 percent pay increase to their annual base salary, from 2017 to 2019.
Although the union had anticipated a reasonable amount, they said 3 percent was the approved increase.
Police Union President, Lowa Tambua, said this is part of their pay increment, as a token of appreciation for their loyalty in the Police Force.
“We have been negotiating for a year, but like every other public servant, 3 percent is the agreed increase. Police men and women have been stressed from the recent events happening in the country and thus that has caused a delay in getting an increase earlier,” he said.
The Police Commissioner, Garry Baki, said they deserve this pay increase, however they have to demonstrate that they are deserving of such, with regards to the performance of their duties.
“The onus is now up to the police men and women to show that they deserve this increase by performing to the Public’s expectations because it is the people’s money, and they have to show that they can be trusted,” said Baki.
The increase in their package also includes a K60-million outstanding payment for service allowances that will be paid over a year from 2018 onward.
