Student Initiates ‘Donate to Kaintiba Primary School Library’ Charity

By Elizah Palme – EMTV Online, Port Moresby

Yanamlyn Biange Yana recently returned from a visit to her place in the remote Kaintiba area of Gulf Province with a discovery she believes worth donating her life for.

The amazing treasure is a newly constructed library in her old school. Yana who is now doing her final year at the University of Papua New Guinea was doing her grades one to eight in this school. During her visit to Kaintiba during the first-semester break this year to schools to distribute 700 copies (out of 1000) of pocket Bibles to school students, the young woman was moved by the development of the library in her former school.

“From all the needs to be addressed at the community level, I have always wanted a library as a child growing up.” Yana said, impressed by the construction of the new library at her old school.

Coming from the University level and seeing the value of Education, in her time she has missed out having access to information sources like libraries and this has caused her to donate her only K900 book allowances to purchase reading books at the UPNG Bookshop to donate to the newly built library.

“The trip home challenged me to do something more. I was challenged to the core of my bones; If I am a changed person, my community should reflect the same, a changed community.” The young woman posted on Facebook whilst thanking people who assisted her on her trip.

As planned, the Library which was built by the school under the leadership of Mr Isaiah Teta is said to be launched at the time of the end of year graduation.

“The sad thing is it will be launched without any reading books or materials in it.” Yana told EMTV Online. Therefore seeing this particular need, she is appealing to anyone who is willing to help donate children reading books, drawing books, stationery, dictionary, encyclopedia, and anything they can find in a library so that the new library can be equipped at the time of its opening.

Her plea on social media yesterday (Wednesday, October 5, 2017) has also drawn many people to donate a book or some books to a school which survived without a library since its establishment in the 80s. Yana asked fellow Papua New Guineans to donate a book(s) to the new Kaintiba Primary School Library, help make a change and give hope to a child who schools at where there is no library.

Yana can be contacted for more information or donation by clicking on this link.
