The last issue of writs was on the July 27, 2012. So any vacancy on a parliamentary seat after the July 27, 2016 will be left vacant until after the 2017 Elections.
With the recent appointment of the Kabwum MP, Bob Dadae, as the new Governor General, Kabwum now joins South Fly as an electorate without an MP until after the elections.
Bob Dadae’s appointment as Governor General, follows his predecessor Sir Michael Ogio’s elevation from being a sitting MP to the Vice Regal’s post.
This has raised concerns that members of parliament are neglecting their duties to take on such posts, while others like GG post contender, Sir Pato Kakaraya, sees this as a worrying trend as he believes the Governor General’s seat is being politicised.
However, while it has raised concerns, it is legal as explained by the Acting Chief Ombudsman, it is covered under section 87, 1 that describes the qualification of a candidate for the post.
Historically, only 2 of the 10 statesmen appointed as Governor General were non-sitting MPs or politicians.
