Tuition Fees at the University of Papua New Guinea for the 2019 academic year have increased by 30 percent.
As of this year, all students will be required to pay K4,242 prior to
The 30 percent increase in the compulsory tuition fee is an addition of K1,303 from 2018 levels of K2,939.
These fees were recently approved by the UPNG Council with specific instructions that 75% of the fees for new and continuing students should be paid before February 8th and 11th respectively.
The 30% increase is separate from the boarding and loading fees which are estimated to be over K7,000 for First Year right through to Year four students.
While the increase has been described by some parents and guardians as expensive, the UPNG Council says the increase is to allow the University to continue to provide teaching and learning services in 2019 and to address the widening gap, between the university’s income and expenditures.
The University also announced an additional fee of K530 for students who decide to take more than four courses in each semester.
Meanwhile, lectures for UPNG 20219 Academic Year will resume in late February.
