BAVAROKO JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL LAUNCHES POLICY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE TO STRENGTHEN SAFETY AND RESPECT

The Bavaroko Junior High School in Port Moresby has launched its Preventing Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH) Policy and introduced a new Welfare Committee recently, marking an important step towards a safer, more respectful and supportive learning environment for students and staff.

Head Teacher (Primary School) Ms Goru said, “We value this partnership and are committed to working together to ensure a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all our students, staff, and members of our school community. Thank you for your trust, support, and commitment to safeguarding our children and young people.”

She said, it also helps students understand their rights and personal safety, while providing confidential avenues to report concerns and seek support.

Goru said a newly established Welfare Committee will help implement the policy and reinforces shared responsibility for safety and accountability across the school community. The Committee will also serve as a safe and confidential point of contact for students and staff requiring advice, support or assistance.

Supported by Australia Government, Equal Playing Field (EPF) helped create the policy which establishes clear standards of behavior, strengthens protection against sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment, and outlines professional and ethical expectations for teachers and staff.

EPF Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder Jacqui Joseph said, “Our theme for this launch, ‘Creating a Safe Learning Environment’ is not just a slogan; it is our solemn promise to every student and staff member who walks through our gates.”
