Teachers refusing to resume duties due to outstanding leave entitlements

By Theckla Gunga – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Over 100 secondary and vocational school teachers in Madang province are refusing to commence duties for the 2019 academic year.

Their grievances are over unpaid outstanding leave entitlements dating back to 2017.

In a meeting held last week, the teachers say the national government owes them over four million kina in total.

The 2019 academic year for students in primary, secondary and vocational schools will start on January 28th.

Teachers are expected to resume duties tomorrow, Monday the 21st of January.
