PNG Games Venues On Track

PNG Games organisers are expecting more than K10 million to be spent on upgrading sporting facilities.

This will include a new beach volleyball facility at Voco Point, new gym equipment at the stadium and other refurbishMen’s at major sporting venues around Lae city.

 

The indoor complex of the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium is undergoing full refurbishment in preparation for the Games.

 

This includes new flooring, improved lighting, ventilation and increased seating capacity to cater for more than 1, 000 people.

 

For the outdoor stadium, the synthetic tracks will be replaced with new ones. Work has also been carried out on its drainage systems.

 

Other facilities like the swimming pool, netball and volleyball courts have also undergone major maintenance and that’s not all. New sporting facilities will be built.

 

A new beach volleyball facility will be constructed at Voco Point beach while a new gym will be constructed within the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium.

 

Major sporting grounds in the city, including the Eriku oval, SCRUM oval, basketball court at Eriku and Lae football grounds will also get major resurfacing in preparation for the Games.
