Goilala MP Casmiro Aia has called on Tolukuma landowners to seize a new chapter of economic opportunities following the launch of Mawabu Investment Limited, the new business arm of the Tolukuma Landowners Association.

The launch and official business briefing was held at the residence of Tolukuma Landowners Association Chairman George Gusi at Vadavada in the Nation’s Capital.

Speaking at the event, Aia described the establishment of the company as long overdue and urged landowners to embrace change.

“We shouldn’t fear new waters. This company launch is well overdue. You could imagine the benefits that have gone over the years. If everyone does not benefit, it means people are not happy,” Aia stated.

The Goilala District Development Authority (DDA) has pledged K300,000 to Mawabu Investment Limited to help establish the company as the official business arm of Tolukuma landowners.

Aia said the funding would soon be released and should be invested wisely to create long-term benefits for present and future generations.

“This K300,000 must bear fruit even for the next generation. It must benefit the people of Goilala,” he added.

The Member also encouraged the company’s leadership to retain ownership and equity within the landowners’ business instead of transferring it elsewhere.

“This business arm must serve the interests of the people and the government. The equity should remain with the business arm for the benefit of our people,” Aia said.

Addressing the future of the Tolukuma Mine, Aia reminded landowners that the previous operation had been liquidated, meaning a fresh agreement should be negotiated.

“The mine has already been liquidated. We should not operate under previous deals. We must strike a new agreement that will give our people the best outcome,” he stated.

He also acknowledged communities especially the Sirime people that have protested against exploration activities they believed would negatively affect customary landowners, saying their actions reflected courage in protecting their land.

Aia appealed to the National Government to ensure Goilala receives a fair share of benefits generated from the Tolukuma Mine.

“What belongs to Goilala must come back to Goilala. We are fighting for our royalty while others are receiving more than us,” he said.

He urged Chairman George Gusi to continue representing the interests of all landowners and work towards agreements that ensure wealth is shared equally among present and future generations.

“Far too long our people have suffered. Let us build a future where our next generation will not struggle. Be peace-loving people, never give up hope. After every storm, there is always calm weather,” Aia added.
