Kavieng Sports

It’s only four months to go before Papua New Guinea stages its 6th PNG Games in Lae, Morobe province.

Preparations are well underway including the venues and provincial teams.

For New Ireland Province, it’s nothing but aiming for gold.

The Sports Ministry, under the Sports Enhancement program, supported the Kavieng Boxing which is one of the feature sports in the Games.

The pristine province commonly known as ‘Bilas Peles’, is one of the provinces that views sports as a development tool.

The province has been producing sporting stars over the years and actively takes part in all sanctioned tournaments including the PNG Games.

This year is an important year for the province. They have started off with the Queens Baton Relay, and now will see a new Sports Centre to cater for the growing demand in sporting activities, leading up to the 6th PNG Games and the 15th Pacific Games in Port Moresby.

A new sports Centre will be built to accommodate netball, basketball and volleyball. The funding was from the Sports Enhancement program under the Sports Ministry.

It was also a big moment for Kavieng boxers to receive a new Olympic  set of  a boxing ring. The support will greatly aid the New Ireland sports teams to formulate a strong side for the PNG Games.

Town Mayor, Mr. Mansini, was a proud man indeed. He gave an assurance to prominently feature Team New Ireland at the PNG Games. He also noted New Ireland’s contribution for sports in the country.

Represents from different sporting codes were engulfed with what has been said and they will  continue better their skills in their specialties.
