The International Olympics Committee will see to it that the Tokyo 2020 will accommodate 50/50 participation from men and women around the world. This comes as the IOC adds new events and controls to the Olympics.
With only 44 per cent female participation in the London 2012, and about 46 per cent in the Rio Olympics, IOC Executive Board Member Gunilla Linberg, says 50/50 is the target for the 2020 games.
Lindberg herself, is one of the three women on the current 13-member IOC Executive Board.
And she said, this is especially aimed at signalling countries that don’t have a female sports culture to enforce equal participation.
IOC plans to achieve that through the inclusion of new events and disciplines.
Federations worldwide are urged to bring equal entry to the games.
