Beyond the Goalposts Program Launched

PNG NRL launched the “Beyond the Goalposts” program today at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby. The program is part of NRL’s capacity building and a development pathway for PNG Rugby League referees.

The beyond the goalpost program will run in partnership with the PNGRFL.

The participants are mostly primary school students.

Australian NRL Referee Education Provider, Paul Oliver, is leading the course, and says participants will gain skills and knowledge needed to be a fair and effective referee.

PNGRFL Chairman, Sandis Tsaka says these will also upskill the current referees and help equip them with the latest updates in the game.

PNG Referees president, Joe Peregua says with this type of programs available, it helps PNG referees understand the game even more and helps build their knowledge to be more effective referees on the field.

The program is also aiming to get more women involved in refereeing matches.

The first module began today at the National Football Stadium.
