AROB Trial Police Recruit Training Program

The Police Recruit Training Program has been regionalised and will be trailled in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

Police Commissioner, Gary Baki says that Bougainville was chosen because it has the training facilities to cater for this program.

“I have given specific considerations, for Bougainville because it has the training facilities which are appropriate for that purpose. Even if we can only train 50, that’s even better if we were not to train anyone, for instance back here in the Autonomous Region,” he said.

“If we have everyone in place, we should commence on June this year,” Baki said.

The Police Commissioner says the Regionalized Training Program is the way forward of regionalizing training and that is to increase manpower.

Meantime he said that Bomana can only take two recruits per year, which is about 400 to 500 recruits.

“The notion in regionalizing training is the way forward. The Bomana Police College are actually working on the program and we are looking at a number of locations throughout Papua New Guinea, so that we can lift the recruit training out of Bomana and bring it out to the region,”
