Turubu Tussle: Inspection Carried Out

The Investment Promotion Authority has carried out an inspection on the Turubu Oil Project.

They were directed by the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry, Richard Maru, to verify whether Sepik Oil Palm Limited, the company responsible for the project, is carrying out logging activities.

 

Senior Legal Counsel of IPA, Malis Miningi will compile a report from line government agencies to present to the minister.

 

Senior Legal Counsel for IPA, Malis Miningi led a small party of key government agency to inspect the Turubu Oil Palm project.

 

They were representatives from the Department of Lands, Forestry and Agriculture and Livestock.

 

Mr. Miningi said, the inspection was to ascertain whether logging activities were carried out by Sepik Oil Palm Limited.

 

According to the department of forestry, a Forest Clearance Authority was granted to make way for the project. They maintained they were no breach in the operation of Sepik Oil Palm Limited.

 

Deputy Governor of East Sepik Province, Ian Samuel said, the provincial government is fully supportive of the project.

 

So far, the provincial government has spent K163 million, to fund the project.

 

It is understood that Wilma Holdings has been selected by the Minister to develop the project.

 

However, according to the provincial lands board, the Turubu Oil Palm project is situated in the Wewak district and extends slightly into Yangoru Saussia.

 

The project is in its 5th year and the prospects are positive.
