In an interview with EMTV, suspended Assistant Police Commissioner for Crimes, Thomas Eluh, clarified the grounds for his suspension.
Mr. Eluh clarified that he wasn’t fighting for his position, but rather the manner and conduct of newly-appointed Acting Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki, whose behavior he described as unbecoming of a constitutional office holder.
He highlighted that despite NEC’s appointment of the Acting Police Commissioner, there was no formal handover ceremony.
Mr. Eluh clarified that he doesn’t have anything against the Acting Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki and his appointment.
He said, however, as a newly appointed Acting Police Commissioner who has been out of the force for almost three years, Mr. Vaki should have asked the Police top management and investigators to brief him thoroughly on police matters before suspending Mr. Eluh.
Mr. Eluh, who has been with the force for close to 40 years, said the Police Commissioner’s Office is a constitutional office and must be respected.
He said in all his life with the disciplined force, this is the first time a Police Commissioner has not been fully briefed by top Management and says his suspension was intentional.
Being a close friend of Mr. Vaki, he was shocked at his actions, given the fact that Mr. Vaki is a senior policeman.
Mr. Eluh has not filed a contempt proceeding against Mr. Vaki as of yet, but will soon take the matter to court based on the fact that Mr. Vaki has not taken office formally despite NEC’s appointment; thus he says his suspension is illegal.
Acting Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki suspended Mr. Eluh, following a confrontation between the two men in a recent meeting.
