Questions on school fights and its impact on the selection process of grade 12’s in the Morobe Province, were put to the higher education Minister, Delilah Gore, when she was in Lae last Friday.
Minister Gore said she isn’t aware of the ongoing issues in Lae schools, which have tainted the image of secondary schools in the province, resulting in a steady increase in the the number of grade 12-drop outs every year.
“There lies some critical challenges for us (office of higher education), and that is how we provide adequate opportunities for the young Papua New Guineans”, Minister Gore said. Numerous reconciliations activities have taken place between schools in Lae that seeks to put an end to the problem.
The focus was to resolve the issue of student violence after it paints a bad picture on Morobe schools, and to a large extent affected grade 12 students’ selection to tertiary institutions.
Not only that, three students have been killed during the student violence encounters in the last two years.
