The Port Moresby Soccer Association ended its FA Cup challenge, with Mungkas thrashing Rapatona four nil in the womens division, and University taking on Defence in the Mens.
Defence had good lead up to the grand final, having confidence, boosting wins over lower division clubs.
University on the other hand, would be counting on the experiences of Reginald Davani, and John Robert in midfield, and relying on the strike power of Cyril Muta banking on their superior ball possession.
Defence left one player up front and were looking for the long balls forward to counter attack.
Cyril Muta was booked early for a challenge on defender Lachlan McGovin, as Defence’s backline stood firm against the quality of University’s attack, and holding out to take the cup from Defence, 2-0.
The PMSA FA cup is a concept similar to competitions’ played in other parts of the world, where teams in the lower divisions are able to compete against bigger clubs, testing their quality of players, and giving those lower ranked teams an opportunity, to play against some of the Association’s well known talent.
The competition had run for five weeks, and PMSA is hoping that with the success of the tournament, they can be able to continue on a similar styled competition.
Association president John Wesley Gonjuan, will be meeting with his executive committee over the coming days, and is also calling on all registered clubs for an urgent meeting, to discuss the next phase of competition, with just over 9 weeks remaining until their venue is closed for re-development.
