Oil Search Limited yesterday donated over K100,000 worth of relief supplies to people affected by recent flooding of the Kikori River.
The donations include diesel, zoom, kerosene, water tanks and numerous food items. All these items will directly contribute to the wellbeing of those in need.
The items were donated following an internal assessment by the company’s community affairs team regarding the impact flooding has brought to people in the area.
Oil Search’s field community affairs manager, Paul Sapake handed over the donations to government officials and representatives of the affected communities at Kopi.
Mr Sapake said that the donation from Oil Search compliments the assistance from the Gulf provincial government and the national government in assisting communities in their time of need.
The items were brought into Oil Search’s kopi base from its field operations base at the Iagifu Ridge Camp in Kutubu.
They were transported to Kopi by road and handed over to Kikori District government officials and affected villages.
Heavy rain started in mid-June and lasted until September this year; the downpour has since subsided but the gardens and houses were affected by the extended bad weather.
