Tapo Explains

The recent ‘666’ rumor has consumed the limelight in recent weeks, especially in Port Moresby.

So far, there has been no evidence to justify this theory, but Secretary for the Department of Education, Dr. Michael Tapo, has come down hard on false accusations leveled against his Department, saying they have no such policy that involves injecting school students.

Dr. Tapo said a new technology-based system will be introduced throughout PNG schools, to enable his Department to gain credible data on teachers, students and their infrastructure.

The new system is a biometric system known as Smart Phone, Smart Information or ‘Smart PSI’ which will assist the Department of Education with reliable data collection for each student and teacher, by registering their thumb prints.

Secretary Tapo said selected schools in NCD, will pilot this new system to examine its effectiveness, before spreading it to the rest of the country.

He further stated the device is specifically for the purposes of correct information on school numbers, teacher numbers, student enrolment and the amount of infrastructure in schools are accurate to the highest degree, so Government can properly allocate funding, according to the data. Consequently, this will eliminate the process of physically filling in forms from provincial education divisions, to headquarters in Port Moresby.

Dr. Tapo gave his assurance to parents and guardians that this new system is in no way detrimental to their school children, but has been implemented to improve the monitoring of schools and ensure that service delivery in schools are done strategically.
