More debate on the purchase of generators on the floor of parliament. This time the legal frameworks were questioned by opposition member and Rabaul MP, Dr. Allan Marrat.
He asked if all legal procedures were followed, before undertaking the purchase. The power generator saga continued on the floor of parliament today. Opposition MP, Dr Allan Marrat, claiming PNG power was not aware of the purchase back in 2013. He asked who facilitated the necessary contract signing and sale to the Israel power company.
He went on further to ask if the PM had the power to approve the purchase without parliament approval. He directed his questions to the attorney general, however the State Enterprise Minister, Ben Micah interjected, stating he would be the right person to answer the questions.
Minutes into his explanation, former treasurer Don Polye, who joined the seating today, called a point of order. Minister Micah went on to imply desperate times meant desperate measures. After it was alleged, proper processes were not followed.
Belden Namah flung a number of papers in the air, stating he had evidence that processes were by passed. Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill called a point of order.
Unfortunately for Mr Namah, he was not able to complete his supplementary question. He later revealed during grievance debate that at times, he felt hopeless trying to raise issues on the floor of parliament.
