Boera Land Acquisition

Boera village is located within the vicinity of Portion 152 of the PNG LNG Plant site. A 15 minutes’ drive from the city of Port Moresby to Boera, one can see that life here for the people is still the same since the first shipment of gas two weeks ago.

The road itself is a struggle for the villager’s day in day out, even on a sunny day, but it is worse when it rains.

The people of Boera village have lost two people who were advocating on their land rights. While they respect the developer and the state, they only want to be recognised by all stakeholders involved in the PNG LNG project.

Village Spokesman, Ua Avei Hosea, and elder Maraga Loa, said they respected the State and the developer, but only wanted to be recognised and participate in business spin-offs and other benefits derived from the PNG LNG Project.

They have now opted to use the services of Simon Ekanda who is well-versed with the issue relating to the government’s compulsory acquisition of the land where their jetty is located.

Mr Ekanda also advocated with the land issues relating to landowners of the PNG LNG Project in Hela, especially with the Tuguba landowners.

Since the construction phase to the shipment of the first gas, the people continue to live the same way, and hope to see changes as they pursue the matter.

Meanwhile, Mr Ekanda is appealing to the people of Lealea and Papa village to collectively vest the Power of Attorney upon him, so he can diligently pursue the matter.
